MY TOP 10 NETWORKING TIPS
1. Be Prepared –
Bring contact/promo materials (not head shots) and have questions to ask and
answers you’ll give at the ready.
2. Arrive Early –
Be relaxed and calm at the start. First impressions count and being
late isn’t a great thing to be remembered for.
3. Have a plan –
What is your goal for the evening? Meet many? A certain person?
What is the expected outcome you desire from attending the event?
4. Be a Giver and/or Connector –
Focus on what you offer, not what you want. This translates in your “energy”
and your conversation. Listen for how you can connect others.
5. Leave Your Troubles Behind –
Be energetic, positive and outgoing. Be a person that others will like.
Remind yourself that it is “SHOW TIME”.
6. Listen with Focus –
LISTEN and really hear what the other person is saying.
Don’t just wait for your turn to talk. One mouth – two ears!
7. Be Genuine –
Even though you’re “on” you still need to be authentic.
Building trust is vital to proper networking.
8. Teach/Don’t Sell –
Be really clear and direct when speaking but don’t be pushy or insistent
on ANYTHING. Allow and receive, instead of force and press.
9. Follow up –
Remember the point of networking is building rapport
and ON-GOING relationship.
10. Follow up Some More! –
Building strong relationships takes continued effort and doing so will ultimately be the basis of a long-lasting and viable career. Start and maintain a database of contacts for constant contact.
